High calorie fair foods vs. healthier alternatives at the New York State Fair

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - It's okay to splurge at the New York State Fair, but if you want to lessen your caloric intake, you can. In the video above, NewsChannel 9's Rachel Polansky shows us some of the highest calorie foods at the fair, and some of the healthier alternatives.

-Colossal onion: Depending on size, 1,000- 1,500 calories. If you want it, share it with your friends or family.

-An alternative: Roasted corn on the cob, 150-200 calories, depending on seasoning.

-Fried Dough covered in sugar and chocolate sauce: Depending on size, 500-800 calories.
-An alternative: Frozen banana dipped in chocolate, 200-300 calories, depending on size.

-Donut bacon cheeseburger: 1,500 calories and about 50 grams of fat, depending on size.

-Alternatives: Regular Hamburger or a Glazed Donut. Both are about 300-500 calories.

-Giant turkey leg: 1,000- 1,500 calories and about 54 grams of fat, depending on size.

-Alternative: Pulled Pork Platter, no bun with baked beans and coleslaw. 450-600 calories, depending on size.

-Opt for water instead of soda. Remember to stay hydrated.
