Before you even get to the Great New York State Fair, finding a parking space or just navigating your way to the fairgrounds is often a daunting task, especially for people like Sharon Brauchle.
"We almost got hit last year because the buses were so close together," said Brauchle.
But this year, that's all changed with an expansion of the bus depot at the main entrance, which is now only a drop-off or pick-up area for Centro and tour buses. Vehicles are not permitted there.
"Centro had issues with bus safety an customer safety because it was a small area, so we doubled the size of the lot by taking out the grass and landscaping and repaving it," said Acting State Fair Director Troy Waffner.
About every 20 minutes the buses pick up fair-goers from places like the Regional Market, local malls and fair parking lots. For Rita Loveless' family of four, it only costs about $8 to get to the fairgrounds by bus.
"With what the price of gas cost today, it's nice to let somebody else have the headache of getting us here," said Loveless. "I feel like it's a lot safer, it's marked off very well and there's no guess work about where you're going. There's no confusion in that way."
If you're not traveling by bus, across from gate three on State Fair Boulevard is the new area for drop-off and pick up by car, it's a simple change that many say make the experience easier and safer.
