Check out what's happening at the New York State Fair on Aug. 27

GEDDES, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Today is Sunday Aug. 27-- Day 5 of the Great New York State Fair!

It’s Family Fishing Day. A day dedicated to fishing in New York State begins on Aug. 27 with a tournament on Onondaga Lake. “I Fish New York,” sponsored by I LOVE NEW YORK, will feature members of Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.) chapters from across the state, competing for the biggest catch from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Admission to the Fair on Aug. 27 is free for those who show a valid sporting license at the gate.

At 1 p.m., you can catch Lynyrd Skynyrd at Chevy Court. Earth, Wind and Fire will take the Chevy Court stage at 8 p.m.

If you want to meet your favorite NewsChannel 9 reporters and anchors, they will be available at our spot near the dairy products building at the following times:

  • Noon- 2p.m.: Dan Cummings, Jennifer Sanders and Kate Thornton
  • 2 p.m.-4p.m.: Christie Casciano and Steve Infanti and Andrew Donovan

Everyday, you can catch other musical performances at the Empire Theater, the NYS Grange Stage or the Empire Experience Stage.

You can also catch various animal shows and competitions throughout the day.

If you’re looking for something a little more exciting, there will be an official weigh-in and the crowning of the champion for the Fishing Tournament at Onondaga Lake on the Empire Experience Stage. In the meantime, the Department of Environmental Conservation will host a free fishing experience from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the New York Experience Area pond.
