Since the last fair, there's a new NYS Secretary of Agriculture and a new Acting Director for the fair, so there are some changes being made with hopes of improving a fair-goer's experience.
Roadwork and paving was done inside the fairgrounds all year and construction is underway to expand the main entrance area. It will allow for more room for CENTRO buses to pick up and drop off people, making it safer for riders and walkers.
For the first time ever, New York State Fair merchandise will be available for purchase at the fair. The store will include coffee mugs, shot glasses and an annual Christmas Ornament each featuring a different fairgrounds building.
To mark the one-month countdown, the State Fair opened their online store. For the first time ever, people can purchase admission tickets online.
Fair organizers say many of these changes came from fair-goers. Acting Director Troy Waffner said, "We've really tried to work in people's comments that we've gotten over the past couple years to make this a good fair. It ranges from the entertainment to the misting stations, better customer service, or more seating around the fairgrounds. That's what we're really aiming for: just have fair-goers walk away from this one going, yea that was a hell of a fair."
