Customers upset about losing Syracuse Nojaim Brothers supermarket

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Employees at Nojaim Brothers supermarket  Syracuse tell NewsChannel 9 that they were given letters saying the Gifford Street store would be closing after 98 years in business.

An exact date has not been given, but we are told they have stopped stacking their shelves.

No word yet on what will happen to those employees.

Ben Smothers, who works at the store, said Nojaim’s closure will be a “stab” to the west side.

For customers with disabilities who rely on the closeness of Nojaim’s will have to go to the closest grocery store-- PriceRite on South Avenue, which is nearly a mile away.

NewsChannel 9 has reached out to Nojaim Bros. multiple times but has yet to hear back. The company said they would be releasing a statement sometime Tuesday night.
