Police: Suspect wanted in convenience store robbery arrested

Updated at 10:03 p.m. on Friday, May 2:

DeWitt (WSYR-TV) - A man wanted in connection with the robbery of a convenience store on James Street in November has been taken into custody, according to DeWitt Police.

50-year-old Lawrence Welsh is accused of robbing the Food Bag near the James Street Wegmans on Nov. 16.

Police say Welsh made off with more than $280 after he threatened to use a weapon against the clerk.

Welsh has been charged with Robbery in the 1st Degree.

The Syracuse Police Department says it also had two robbery warrants for Welsh.

Welsh will be arraigned on charges in Syracuse City Court on Saturday and taken to the Justice Center to return to DeWitt Court at a later date.

DeWitt (WSYR-TV) – DeWitt Police are ‘On The Lookout’ for a man they say robbed a convenience store by threatening the clerk with the words, “Do you want to get shot?”

Police say 50-year-old Lawrence “Jack” Welch is wanted in connection to a robbery that occurred at the Food Bag located at West Manlius Street, near the James Street Wegmans on Nov. 16.

Police say Welch’s last known address is 262 West 3rd St. in Fulton and describe him as:
  • 50-year-old Caucasian male
  • 6’2” tall
  • 220 pounds
