Republicans respond to Mahoney's claims on Newsmakers

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney says some of her political enemies are harassing her, and she wants it to stop.

Mahoney confirms a run-in with one of them last December in DeWitt— she says a man named Brian Renna was trying to take pictures of her at the Scotch 'N Sirloin restaurant as she sat with businessman Dino Dixie.

Dixie is suing the county and county comptroller Bob Antonacci for civil rights violations.

Based on advice from legal counsel, Antonacci told Renna to get a picture of Mahoney and Dixie together that night to bolster his claim that the county executive was improperly "cavorting" with a plaintiff in a lawsuit.

On Newsmakers with Dan Cummings, Mahoney described how things escalated that night at the Scotch ‘N Sirloin.

Responding to Mahoney, Tom Dadey, the county Republican chair, told us, “I can assure you, there's no harassment going on.  And I would welcome any investigation into her ridiculous claims."

Antonacci said, “Instead of taking responsibility for her own outrageous conduct, the county executive continues to spout falsehoods, innuendoes and lies.  The fact remains that she was seen having improper contact with an individual presently suing the county and her reaction betrays her own guilty conscience."

Renna says, "The allegations made by the County Executive, are baseless and wholly without merit, and are designed to distract from her own lack of judgment in this matter.  It's troubling she would send out a spokesman whose salary is paid for by taxpayers to spread lies and make false claims about me and others. These outrageous claims are slanderous and just plain wrong, and the County Executive knows it."
