Perseid meteor shower peaks this weekend

Want to see a shooting star this weekend?

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - This weekend marks the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, particularly Friday and Saturday nights. The earth will be passing through the densest and dustiest part of Comet Swift-Tuttle trail this Friday and Saturday which is why the peak of the Perseid occurs this weekend.

Unfortunately, right now it looks like there will be quite a few clouds around this weekend, but there should be some breaks in the overcast , especially Friday night to view the shower.

The best time to view the meteor shower will be across the lower northern sky around 10PM due to the rising of the almost full moon around 11PM.

The moonlight will obscure the fainter meteors and decrease the number of meteors you’ll be able to see with the naked eye from 80 to 100 per hour down to 40 to 50 per hour.
