Court documents: Baldwinsville man struck girlfriend with a brick, strangled her

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Court documents indicate that a Baldwinsville man struck his Canadian girlfriend several times in the head with a brick, and also strangled her Thursday morning at a hotel on Erie Boulevard.

During his arraignment on Thursday, 38-year-old David Schmidinger was told he must undergo a psychological evaluation before he can enter a plea.

Schmidinger has been charged with second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of 44-year-old Michelle Paterson of Ontario at a Hampton Inn.

According to a court clerk, the evaluation will be completed sometime after Jan. 1.

He is, however scheduled for a preliminary hearing on December 27.

Police arrested Schmidinger after he reportedly called police around 11:10 a.m. on Thursday to admit his crime.
