Police: Suspect used a knife to steal a pack of cigarettes from a victim

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police were able to quickly arrest a suspect shortly after he used a knife to steal a pack of cigarettes from a victim on Dickerson Street early Wednesday morning.

According to police Edward Lopez, 23, asked the victim for a cigarette on the 100 block of Dickerson Street around 2:45 a.m.

After the victim handed one to Lopez, he allegedly demanded the pack and used a knife to force the victim to turn it over.

Minutes later, police caught up with Lopez on the 400 block of South Salina Street and took him into custody.

They charged him with robbery in the first degree, a felony, as well as misdemeanors including criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.

He was taken to the Justice Center and was scheduled to be arraigned in Syracuse City Criminal Court.
