Police: Syracuse murder suspect arrested in NYC

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - An 20-year-old suspected in connection with a homicide on East Fayette Street in Syracuse is in custody after law enforcement caught up with him in New York City on Monday.

Syracuse Police say Zaccai Stevens shot and killed 18-year-old Daquarious Powell in February.

Police found Powell’s body when they responded to a report of a person lying down on the ground on Sunday, Feb. 25 shortly before 10 a.m.

An autopsy revealed that Powell had been shot to death.

Court documents allege that Stevens had shot Powell twice in the head. 

Stevens has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Stevens has been returned to Central New York and is lodged in the Onondaga County Justice Center.

Police say they are not releasing his mugshot during this phase of the investigation.
