Police: Verizon employee illegally accessed victims' phones for years

AUBURN, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A Verizon employee is facing criminal charges for allegedly taking images and video of a sensitive nature from victims’ phones over the course of several years.

Auburn Police arrested Eladio Delgado on charges that he took sensitive content from the phones of “upwards of 20 separate victims” since 2013 – and they believe it is very likely that there are many more victims who are unaware.

Police began investigating on Jan. 1 after a woman discovered than an image “of a personal nature” had been accessed from her old cellphone and texted to an unknown number.

The victim told police that the incident occurred while she was upgrading to a new phone at a Verizon Wireless store on Grant Avenue in Auburn.

In an investigation that spanned eight months and involved the help of multiple agencies, police discovered numerous other victims.

On Friday, they charged Delgado – who lives on East Willow Street in Weedsport – with two counts of unauthorized use of a computer, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in Auburn City Court and released on his own recognizance.

If you have any information that might help police in their investigation, call Detective Brian Blanchfield at (315) 255-4703.
