Report: Millions of customers could be impacted by Sonic data breach

WSYR-TV - Millions of customers who recently ate at Sonic may be victim in the latest credit card breach, according to multiple reports.

Nearly 5 million debit and credit card accounts were being peddled in underground cybercrime stores, security news site KrebsOnSecurity reported on Tuesday.

The fast-food company confirmed to KrebsOnSecurity that its credit-card processor informed the chain last week of "unusual security regarding credit cards being used at Sonic."

It's unclear whether these cards for sale were stolen from the same source or if they were taken from multiple sources.

It’s not clear yet whether all 5 million cards for sale in that batch were stolen from the same source, or if they were taken from multiple sources.

Sonic has over 3,600 locations across 45 states.
