Rome man accused of installing app to track his ex-girlfriend, spy on her text messages

ROME, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A Rome man has been arrested for allegedly installing an app to spy on his ex-girlfriend, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office says 33-year-old Anthony Swancott installed an app on his ex-girlfriend’s cell phone that tracks her location and forwarded a copy of each of her text messages to his phone.

The app was installed on the victim’s phone in November 2016 without her knowledge, according to the sheriff’s office.

Swancott was charged with eavesdropping, a felony.

He will appear in Rome City Court on Jan. 26.
