3 charged in Rome gang assault

ROME, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Rome Police have made three arrests in connection with an alleged gang assault on Curtis Street.

The two suspects, 20-year old Devlin White of Rome and 19-year old Austin Winters of Rome, have been charged with first-degree gang assault and third-degree assault.

White is also charged with second degree menacing.

Mohawk Valley Crime Stoppers offered up to $2,000 dollars in reward money for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Police say several anonymous tips help lead to the three arrests.

There is an additional 15-year old suspect that is not being identified right now due to his age.

According to police, on Monday, Nov. 28 a resident of Curtis Street in Rome woke up to his car’s alarm system being activated and found the three suspects rummaging through his car.

When the victim left his home, the suspects allegedly attacked him, causing numerous injuries.

A second victim, trying to help the first victim, also has serious injuries.

Mohawk Valley Crime Stoppers are offering up to $2,000 in rewards for credible information that leads to the arrest of three car prowlers who beat a homeowner and his father-in-law early Tuesday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Curtis Street, where a resident had woken up after his vehicle’s alarm system was activated.

When the 33-year-old homeowner went outside to investigate, he saw three men rummaging through his vehicle. All three suspects then attacked the man, seriously injuring him.

The man’s father-in-law came outside after hearing the noise and tried to help his son-in-law who was under attack only to end up beaten himself.

The three suspects then fled the area on foot and were last seen running southbound on Madison Street towards West Court Street. 

The suspects are described as one black male and two Hispanic males. All three are believed to be in their late teens or early twenties.
