Ronald McDonald House celebrates Christmas in July

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The Ronald McDonald House of Central New York is reaching out for help replenishing many essentials used for the families of sick children they serve.

The organization has seen a huge increase in occupancy since moving into a much larger house five years ago.

While services are growing too, their core mission remains the same.

When you live a few hours from the medical services our community offers, Jennifer Hernandez and her 4-year-old son, Aiden, are glad to have the Ronald McDonald house.

“It’s more of a comfort level because just changing environments so often becomes kind of stressful for him,” Hernandez said. She has used the Ronald McDonald house several times.

She says that's not the only kind of comfort the house provides.

"Just having that camaraderie with other parents going through similar things it's a great support system that you're really not going to find at a hotel or even going back home to your family,” she said.

Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of CNY Beth Trunfio says the House is saving families over a million dollars a year by staying there when they come for medical services in Syracuse.
