Scammers posing as lottery winners trying to steal information: Your Stories

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - One viewer contacted the Your Stories team, saying that he got an email from a person claiming to be Mavis Wancyzk, the Massachusetts woman who won the $700 million Powerball jackpot.

The email had a reference number, claiming that the receiver was selected to get $5 million from “Wancyzk,” who claimed she was giving away money to random people across the country.

This is a scam.

Police say several fake accounts have been created offering a piece of the jackpot in exchange for your personal information.

Officers say do not fall for this or give out any of your information.  You should also report the fake accounts.
