Sheriff's Office identifies 2 men killed after falling through icy pond in Oswego County

SANDY CREEK, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two fishermen who died after falling through an icy pond in Sandy Creek.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to a call around 11 a.m. on Monday regarding two fishermen who fell through the ice while ice fishing.

The county dive team was called in and recovered the two men shortly after 3 p.m.

The two victims have been identified as 64-year-old Arthur Connors and 62-year-old Mark Pienkowski, both of Baldwinsville.

Deputies say poor ice conditions were the contributing factor of the accident. The ice conditions also hampered recovery efforts.

The Sandy Creek, Ringgold and West Monroe fire departments assisted at the scene. The United States Coast Guard and the Oswego Dive team also assisted.

The investigation into this accident is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office at (315) 349-3411.
