Sheriff's Office identifies second victim in Parish fire

PARISH, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a second victim in a deadly fire in the town of Parish.

Verna Nicholas, 50, died Sunday when the mobile home she shared with Richard Nicholas on Crim Road erupted in flames.

Investigators say an “electrical event” near the bedroom sparked the fire.

The caller who alerted 911 dispatchers just before 9 a.m. said they heard a man yelling from a window, saying he and his wife were trapped inside.

Firefighters tried to get inside, but were pushed back by smoke and flames, according to deputies.

The bodies of the victims were later found inside the home, once the fire was put out.

Several fire departments helped at the scene, including Parish fire department, Central Square fire department, Hastings fire department, Mexico fire department, New Haven fire department, West Amboy fire department, and the Williamstown fire department.
