Canton (WSYR-TV) – The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is no longer searching the home of a couple suspected of kidnapping two Amish children last week.

Sheriff Kevin Wells says they have “released the suspects’ home” and are now processing a “large amount” of evidence.

He says they are not searching any other areas, but they are asking for any information that could help their investigation into the case.

39-year-old Stephen Howells and 25-year-old Nicole Vaisey, of Hermon, are accused of seizing two Amish girls from their family's vegetable stand in Oswegatchie on Wednesday night.

They have been charged with kidnapping.

The St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office says more charges could be forthcoming – including Federal charges.

Anyone with information that can help the investigation should call (315) 379-2222.

A conflict defender assigned to Howells, Amy Dona, is not offering comment to the media at the moment.
