Summer begins on a cool note

Summer starts at 12:24 am Wednesday

SYRACUSE (WSYR - Wednesday is the official start of the summer season and the longest day of the year with a sunset time of     8:47 pm after a sunrise of 5:25 am.

This summer will begin cooler than average as highs are expected to be up near 75, while the average high for June 21st is 79° in Syracuse.

It's been awhile since we've had a high lower than the upper 70s for the first day of summer.  You have to go all the way back to 2009 when the high temperature only reached 75°.   Yes, 8 years since we've had a cooler than average high temperature to kick off the summer season.

Overall Wednesday will be a nice day though with a nice, comfortably cool breeze, some sun and just a slight risk for a pop-up shower or two during the afternoon. Enjoy and welcome to summer 2017 everyone!
