Suspect in armed Rome bank robbery in custody

ROME, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A Rome man who allegedly robbed a bank by jumping over a teller counter with a semi-automatic handgun is under arrest.

Police say they took Paul Guarneri of Turin Street into custody on Saturday, two days after the Adirondack Bank on Black River Boulevard in Rome was robbed.

They charged Guarneri with first-degree robbery.

Police released surveillance images shortly after the robbery. They say the images helped lead them to the suspect.

Guarneri allegedly wore a Halloween mask during the incident.

He was arraigned in Rome City Court and taken to the Oneida County Correctional Facility.

Police believe Guarneri is being held without bail.
