Syracuse man sentenced to 6 years on child porn conviction

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A Syracuse man will spend the next six years in prison after he was convicted on Federal child pornography charges.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, investigators discovered more than 1,500 images of child pornography and nine videos when they searched the home of Gilbert Gonyea in November 2014.

The materials were stored on DVDs, which the 60-year-old man had labeled “Downloads” – along with dates detailing when he had received the pornography.

In addition to the prison term, Gonyea will be supervised for the rest of his life, and he must register as a sex offender.
