Syracuse Police: 2 charged in Avery Ave double homicide

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse Police have arrested two men in connection with a double homicide on Avery Avenue in the city last month. 

According to police Brian Montanez and Rene DeJesus were trying to rob 39-year-old Jose Castro and 31-year-old Arturo Resto Figueroa, when Castro and Figueroa were shot.

With the help of US Marshals and NYPD, police caught DeJesus in New York City, charging him with first-degree murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree attempted robbery.

In addition, they charged Montanez, who lives in Syracuse, with second-degree murder and first-degree attempted robbery.
