Syracuse woman sentenced for role in child sex exploitation case

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A Syracuse woman is headed to Federal prison for engaging in sexually explicit activities with a young child and then sending images to a man convicted of preying on children, including infants.

Kerry Smith, 42, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.

She must also register as a sex offender.

Smith pleaded guilty in February to having sexual contact with a 10-year-old in 2014, and then sending the images to Jason Kopp.

The Liverpool man is serving a sentence of 235 years in prison for sexually abusing at least eight children – including a 6-day-old infant.

Investigators caught up with Smith when they found the images she’d sent Kopp on his computer.
