Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A billing snafu may have caused headaches for some National Grid customers early this year. A Newschannel 9 viewer said he has been hounded by a collections agency recently, even though he always pays his bills from the utility on time.

A spokesperson for National Grid confirms they had a problem sending data to a third-party vendor between November 25th and December 5th. As a result, about 14-thousand records used by collection agencies didn't synch properly with National Grid's system.

A National Grid spokesperson tells us: "In some cases, customer accounts got flagged for final account balances still owed to national grid and triggered collection agencies like Allied Account Services to contact affected customers."

The utility claims records have now been updated and corrected. So, accounts referred to collections in error should be closed by now and ultimately credit should not be affected.

Customers who got a call for money due, should keep an eye on their accounts. If there's still a problem, customers should try calling 1-800-642-4272 for help.
