Trial begins for father of Syracuse child murdered in gang shooting

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Jury selection is underway in the murder trial of a Syracuse man whose 20-month-old child was killed in gang-related shooting in 2010.

25-year-old Rashaad Walker Sr. is accused of shooting and killing Tony Guyton outside of Clinton Plaza Apartments in November 2015.

Walker is being tried on charges including second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Walker’s child, Rashaad Walker Jr., was killed by Saquan Evans in 2010.

The child was in the midst of a complicated gang conflict triggered by the murder of former Henninger sports star Kihary Blue.

Evans was trying to shoot the child's father.

Evans is currently serving a life sentence.
