Tuberculosis case reported at the Syracuse City School District

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A case of active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) has been reported at PSLA Fowler in the Syracuse City School District.

“While TB is less common than it once was, it still remains a public health concern. Anyone can contract the disease after exposure to an active TB case. It is treatable and curable by specific antibiotics treatment," said Onondaga County Health Commissioner Dr. Indu Gupta.

TB is an airborne bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs.

The Onondaga County Health Department will release more information on the case Wednesday morning.

Symptoms include persistent cough, feelings of weakness or lethargy, weigh loss, low-grade fever and/or night sweats.
