UnitedHealthcare acquiring Pomco Group

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The UnitedHealthcare Group confirmed on Monday that it is in the process of acquiring Eastwood-based Pomco Group – which employs 400 people.

The company issued the following statement:

UnitedHealthcare and POMCO have entered into an agreement to integrate their third-party administration businesses. In addition to further expanding access to health benefits in Central and Upstate New York, businesses and consumers will have greater access to programs and services that can improve the health and well-being of individuals.

Pomco let go of nearly 70 people in 2015.

At the time, the company said it initially expanded its staff rapidly to match demand for Health Republic services – a product of Obamacare.

Regulatory agencies recently announced that they were shutting down Health Republic.

POMCO provides health insurance services for other companies.

“We are excited to combine capabilities with POMCO and UnitedHealthcare,” said Matt Peterson, chief executive officer of Ancillary and Individual, UnitedHealthcare. “After decades of strong performance with POMCO, we see further opportunities for growth with our combined businesses.”

UnitedHealthcare's parent company, United Health Group, is based in Minnesota. The company has offices across the U.S.
