Utica Fire Chief on ‘leave of absence'

UTICA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Utica Fire Chief Russell Brooks is on a leave of absence, according to the city’s Corporation Counsel.

The counsel – which is part of the mayor’s office – indicated that he is on “indeterminate, non-disciplinary, administrative leave.”

The city says Brooks officially remains the fire chief.

Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri declined to comment on the nature of the leave of absence, describing it as a “pending personnel matter.”

Assistant Chief George Clark has assumed day-to-day operations.
