(WSYR-TV, Syracuse)  New information into the office shows support for a widespread 5-10" snowfall for CNY.

  • 2-4" of snow by sunrise Wednesday.
  • 3-6" during the day Wednesday, with the bulk of that falling during Wednesday morning.

The heaviest snow will fall later Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, with snow intensity dropping off after Noon Wednesday.

It's a quick-hitter, and while we'll be colder, just a few lake effect snow showers are in the forecast for Thursday.  I don't see any setup for significant lake effect snow behind this storm.

I would expect a much slower morning commute Wednesday.  Travel will improve later Wednesday, so if you can hold off plans until later in the day, there will still be some snow, but it will be lighter.  I would think additional snowfall after Noon Wednesday will be 1-2".

Winds don't look to be significant through the snowfall (NE-NW 6-12 mph through the day Wednesday) so right now, I don't see significant problems with blowing snow.

If you don't have it already, now is a good time to download the Storm Team App from iTunes or the Google Play Store.  Just search WSYR.  The app works on Kindle, too.
