LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office has identified a woman whose body was found in a creek near Onondaga Lake on Thursday night.
Deputies say 50-year-old Daphne Washburn, of Liverpool, was driving northbound on the Onondaga Lake Parkway when she drifted off road, continuing to the Butterfly Garden before entering an icy creek.
Washburn may have exited her vehicle, not realizing that she was in a 4-foot deep creek, deputies say.
Responding crews found her under the ice around 8:20 p.m.
Deputies believe she went off-road due to “extreme white out conditions.”
The official cause of death will be determined by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
