Zoo welcomes newest Humboldt Penguin

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The Rosamond Gifford Zoo has a brand new resident.

On Wednesday, the zoo announced that a new Humboldt Penguin hatched this spring.

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney helped the zoo welcome the chick, which hatched May 5.

The zoo says it will have its customary naming contest, as well.

The chick’s parents are Mario and Montana, who will care for it for several weeks before it joins the rest of the colony.
