NewsChannel 9 WSYR-TV is the ABC affiliate covering Syracuse and Central New York. The station began broadcasting on September 9, 1962. Throughout our more than 50-year history, the station has always been strongly committed to the community. We produce the top rated local news programming in Central New York. Working together for more than 25 years, our main news anchors, Carrie Lazarus and Rod Wood, are one of the longest running anchor teams in the country. The station has always been a leader in new technology. NewsChannel 9 was the first to broadcast digitally, the first to broadcast local news in high definition, and the only station with live local Doppler radar. NewsChannel 9 also serves the community through extensive locally produced programming including the daily talk show "Bridge Street," extensive coverage of Syracuse University athletics with "Orange Nation," and a live broadcast of the annual Syracuse St. Patrick's Parade.
