Syracuse drops ACC Opener at NC State

Game Recap:

Syracuse would fall behind 26-7 at the half, and couldn't pull off the comeback falling at NC State 33 to 25.

NC State scored on five of their six drives in the first half.

Still, the Orange didn't give up, coming out of the locker room and scoring on their first possession.  Eric Dungey scored one of his two rushing touchdowns to make it a 26-14 game early in the third.

With just under five minutes to play in the game, Dungey connected with Steve Ishmael for the touchdown.  Dungey would add the two-point conversion to trim the NC State lead to 33-25.

Syracuse would never get the ball back, as NC State converted a 4th and inches with two minutes to play to ice the game.

Side Notes:

Syracuse senior wide receiver Erv Philips broke a school and ACC record with 17 receptions for 188 yards.

SU Junior quarterback Eric Dungey finished the day 30-47 for 385 yards.  Dungey also led the Orange in rushing with 44 yards.

Steve Ishmael went over 100 yards receiving for the 5th straight game, tying a Syracuse school-record set by Amba Etta-Tawo last season.

SU senior linebacker Zaire Franklin left the game on the first drive of the game with an injury.  Franklin did return late in the second quarter and played the rest of the game.

SU returns home to take on Pittsburgh on October 7, at 12:30 p.m.
