Insurer says nearly $1.25 million in checks still unclaimed

According to one of the state’s largest health insurers, more than 12,000 New Yorkers aren’t aware of checks that have gone unclaimed or uncashed.
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – According to one of the state’s largest health insurers, more than 12,000 New Yorkers aren’t aware of checks that have gone unclaimed or uncashed.

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield has posted the names of people who eligible for “forgotten funds” on the company’s website. Excellus says about $1.25 million in checks have been issued that have not been cashed for a number reasons including a change of address or death.

Checks that go unclaimed too long are turned over to the State Comptroller’s Office.

To claim a check prior to Aug. 31, current Excellus BlueCross BlueShield members should call the number listed on their member identification card. Those who are no longer members should call 1 (877) 757-3850.

The company says it will not mail checks until after Aug. 31.
