Police said at a news conference that they believe there was only one shooter and that he is in custody.

Authorities would not officially confirm the identity of the suspect or victims, nor the reported fatality.

The shooting happened at 9:20 a.m. local time, 12:20 p.m. eastern time.

The shooting happened in Terminal 3. Other terminals at the airport are open.

Airport Police say the suspect opened fire in the terminal, moved to the screening area and continued shooting, then went past the screeners into the airport itself.

Officers responded and tracked the suspect through the airport where they engaged in gunfire before taking the suspect into custody, police said.

Multiple victims were shot and transported to hospitals, Airport Police confirmed.

Officials believe the area is now safe after completing security sweeps of the airport.
