Athlete of the Week: Homer's Caley Cornwell

HOMER, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - With every bucket for the rest of the Homer girls basketball season, our latest Athlete of the Week Caley Cornwell keeps adding to her legacy.

"Right now, everyone wants to see me get to 1,000 points because that's never happened in Homer, so that'd be a great achievement but that's gonna be tough,” Cornwell said.

Whether the Trojans senior gets to 1,000 points or not, she will leave Homer as the all-time girls leading scorer.

On Jan. 25 in a game with Marcellus, Cornwell passed Collette DaFoe’s mark of 804 career points-- a record set in 1997.

"Honestly it feels really good because hard work really does pay off, like I've worked so hard. Other people look at it and it's like ‘she works really hard you can really get somewhere with that,’” Cornwell said.
