Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse University sophomore Michael Carter-Williams will try his luck in the 2013 NBA Draft.

The athletic department said that SU coach Jim Boeheim confirmed his star guard’s decision.

“Michael has informed me of his intention to enter the NBA Draft. He’s coming off a tremendous season and we appreciate all he’s done for Syracuse basketball. We wish Michael the best of luck as he pursues a pro career,” Boeheim said in a statement from the department.

Carter-Williams was among the top players in college basketball in the assists category, averaging 7.3 per game. He finished fifth in assists among NCAA Division 1 players.

He was also fourth in steals with 2.78.
