Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Hall-of-Fame defenseman Brian Leetch dropped the puck at the War Memorial at the game between the Syracuse Crunch and Springfield Falcons.

Leetch is one of the best American-born hockey players ever.

He said just getting to be back on the ice was something special.

"It's always good to be back in the arena and see hockey fans," said Leetch.

Leetch was named Playoff MVP when the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994.

He also won a silver medal with the U.S. team in 2002 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009.

As for the game, the Crunch would rally late to force overtime but eventually lost to Springfield 6-5.

It was the second time the Crunch lost to the Falcons in as many nights.
