Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The #1-ranked Syracuse University men's lacrosse team lost at home on Saturday.

The Orange were outscored 16-8 by the #7 Maryland Terrapins in SU's first ACC matchup.

SU had a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but it was all Maryland the rest of the game.

In the second quarter, Marlyand scored 10 goals while Syracuse only scored two.

It is Syracuse's first loss of the season and the team is now 2-1 overall.

For Syracuse, redshirt sophomore Dylan Donahue racked up a career-high three assists while redshirt junior Henry Schoonmaker scored three goals for his first hat trick of the year.

Connor Cannizzaro, of Cazenovia, plays for Maryland and scored three goals and earned one assist.

"Not much to say other than my hat is off to Maryland," said SU head coach John Desko.

"I thought they handled the pressure of coming into the Carrier Dome extremely well. They had a couple of freshmen running around out there that didn't seem intimidated at all. I thought they played very well and had a good game plan."

The Orange will take the field again next Saturday when the team goes on the road to take on Virginia.

The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

The game will be streamed live on ESPN3 and rebroadcast Sunday, March 2 on ESPNU.
