Remsen's Erin Hamlin third in luge after two runs at Winter Olympics; U.S. has never medaled in the event

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Olympian Erin Hamlin, from the Oneida County village of Remsen, is ranked third after the first two runs in the women’s single luge event in Sochi.

Two of four runs in the event took place Monday morning, New York time. Hamlin finished with a total time of 1:40.632, 0.818 behind the leader Natalie Geisenberger of Germany.

Tatjana Huefner of Germany is ranked second, 0.766 seconds behind first place.

During Hamlin’s second run, she hit speeds of more than 83 miles per hour.

The U.S. has never won a medal in men’s or women’s single luge.

The third and fourth runs take place Tuesday morning, New York time.

Medals will be awarded following the fourth run.
