Lexington, KY (WSYR-TV) – The Syracuse women’s basketball team lost to the Kentucky Wildcats 64-59 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday, putting an end to a historic season for the Orange.

SU (23-10) qualified for its highest seeding ever in the big dance and won its first NCAA Tournament game in program history on Saturday against Chattanooga.

The No. 6 seed Orange faced No. 3 seed Kentucky without leading scorer Brittney Sykes, who hurt her knee during Chattanooga on Saturday.

With the victory, the Wildcats (26-8) will face either Baylor or California in the Sweet 16.
