Syracuse falls in double overtime to Florida State despite career night from Tyus Battle

Orange fall to Seminoles 101-90 in double overtime

TALLAHASSEE, F.L. (WSYR-TV) - Tyus Battle scored a career high 37 points but Syracuse fell to No. 23 Florida State 101-90 in double overtime for its fourth straight loss. 

Three other players scored in double figures including Oshae Brissett with 14 points and 8 rebounds, Frank Howard finished with 13 points and 5 assists and Paschal Chukwu with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Syracuse now drops to 12-6 overall and 1-4 in ACC play. 

The Orange had an early lead after Tyus Battle opened the game with a three, 3-0. But it was Florida State that would hold the lead for the final 12:49 minutes of the half and was up 31-21 at halftime. 

Battle opened the second half hot on offense scoring 13 points, including three 3-pointers, in the first six minutes of the half to put SU up 42-38. 

The Orange's largest lead would be seven after a Matthew Moyer layup to make it 45-38 and a Frank Howard three to make the score 48-41 with 10:11 to play. 

Syracuse found itself down 74-71 with 16 seconds left before Battle tied the game at 74 with a 3-pointer and eventually sending the game to its first overtime. 

SU led four times in the first overtime but by no more than two points. Syracuse's final lead of the game came with 48 seconds to play in the first OT off a Battle jumper. But FSU's Trent Forrest tied the game at 82 all to send it to the second overtime. 

In the double overtime, Florida State outscored Syracuse 19-8 to pull away for the win. 

Frank Howard fouled out of the game in regulation while Paschal Chukwu and Matthew Moyer both fouled out in overtime. 

Syracuse returns home on Tuesday, Jan. 16, to face Pittsburgh 8-10(0-5) at 9pm.
