Former Fort Drum soldier signs contract with Philadelphia Eagles

A former Fort Drum soldier is taking his skills from the battlefields to the football fields after signing a rookie free-agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Philadelphia (WSYR-TV) - A former Fort Drum soldier is taking his skills from the battlefields to the football field after signing a rookie free-agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

25-year-old Alejandro Villanueva is a former Army football player, and former 10th Mountain Division soldier who was stationed at Fort Drum.

The platoon leader worked with Syracuse University football players during the team’s annual visit to the base. Villanueva helped the Orange develop communication skills and work through strength challenges.

At the time, Villanueva told NewsChannel 9 seeing the Orange players brought him motivation after being deployed to Afghanistan.
