SU women's basketball team earns first NCAA Tournament win

Syracuse defeated Chattanooga 59-53. However, with a little over 11 minutes to go in the second half, Syracuse sophomore guard Brittney Sykes hurt her knee as she drove in for a layup.
Lexington, Kentucky (WSYR-TV) - Saturday marked a first for the Syracuse University women's basketball program.

The Orange earned its first NCAA tournemnt win in program history with a 59-53 win over Chattanooga.

However, the victory was a costly one.

With a little over 11 minutes to go in the second half, Syracuse sophomore guard Brittney Sykes hurt her knee as she drove in for a layup.

After the game, Sykes was using crutches.  The team has not said how serious the injury is.

Sykes led the Orange in scoring this year, averaging more than 16 points per game.

Syracuse's next opponent will be Kentucky.  They will face the Wildcats on Monday.
