Area bridge closures continue as DOT conducts bridge inspections

The DOT will close road and ramps in the Syracuse area as crews inspect bridges as part of the I-81 Opportunities Project.

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The DOT will close road and ramps in the Syracuse area as crews inspect bridges as part of the I-81 Opportunities Project.   

The project will determine the future of I-81 in Downtown Syracuse.

The DOT reports that the closures will affect area interstates as well as some Onondaga County and Syracuse city streets.

The project specific bridge inspections will continue at various locations during 2014, according to the DOT.

The DOT announced the following closures:

Thursday, Jan. 9:
  • Southbound I-481 over Totman Road: Single lane closures from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Westbound I-690 over Bear and Liberty Streets: Right lane closed from 7 a.m. to noon; left and center lanes closed from noon to 3 p.m.
  • Southbound I-481 over Route 290 (Manlius Center Road): Single lane closures on Rt. 290 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Friday, January 10:
  • Eastbound I-690 ramp to Bear Street (Exit 9): Closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic will be detoured at Exit 8 (Hiawatha Blvd).
