11 injured when circus performers crash to the ground in Rhode Island

At least 11 circus performers were taken to the hospital after a metal prop from which multiple acrobats were dangling crashed to the ground in front of a stunned crowd in Providence, RI.
Providence, RI (WSYR-TV/ABC) – At least 11 circus performers were taken to the hospital after a metal prop from which multiple acrobats were dangling crashed to the ground in front of a stunned crowd in Providence, RI.

Eight acrobats were suspended approximately 30 feet in the air by their hair when they crashed down onto a dancer below.

There were no nets in place to catch the acrobats and the metal structure they had been hanging from crashed down.

Along with the acrobats, ground personnel were injured in the incident.

First responders arrived shortly to help the performers.

The act is called the “Human Chandelier.”

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus advertises that the performance is the only one of its kind in the world.

The performers were taken to a local hospital with broken bones, cuts, and head trauma.

According to the ABC News website, three of the performers are in critical condition.

All of the performers are expect to survive.
