2 charged in Auburn suspicious death investigation

Police in Auburn have charged two men as a result of an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old woman that they called “suspicious” at the time.
Auburn (WSYR-TV) – Police in Auburn have charged two men as a result of an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old woman that they called “suspicious” at the time.

Police say Jessica Gentile died of a heroin overdose at a home on Frances Street in Auburn.

And now they’ve arrested Matthew Malenick, saying he gave Gentile the drugs and then lied to emergency personnel and police in an effort to cover it up.

Malenick was arrested in North Carolina where he awaits extradition to New York.

He faces charges including:
  • Two counts of felony criminal sale of a controlled substance
  • Two counts of felony criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Felony tampering with physical evidence
  • Misdemeanor falsely reporting an incident in the third degree
  • Misdemeanor making a punishable false written statement
In addition, they obtained a warrant for Joseph “Max” Ferrara, who they say sold the heroin to Malenick.

They charged him with:
  • Two counts of felony criminal sale of a controlled substance
  • Two counts of felony criminal possession of a controlled substance
Ferrara was arrested in Florida.
