85-year-old man rescued from ravine by Tompkins County emergency crews

Emergency crews in Tompkins County rescued an 85-year-old man who fell down an icy ravine in the town of Dryden on Tuesday morning.
Dryden (WSYR-TV) – Emergency crews in Tompkins County rescued an 85-year-old man who fell down an icy ravine in the town of Dryden on Tuesday morning.

Ithaca fire officials responded to the scene on German Cross Road after the incident was reported around 11:20 a.m.

Dispatchers were told the man was bleeding from the head after he fell down the ravine.

Fire officials said the ravine was approximately 70 feet deep and difficult to access.

Members of the Slaterville Fire and Ambulance Squad were already with the patient when Ithaca crews devised a rope system to lift the victim out.

The rescue took about an hour and a half, according to Ithaca fire officials.

Fire officials said the man was conscious and alert when he was taken to the Wilson Trauma Center in Binghamton with lacerations to his head.

His current condition is unknown by fire officials at this time.
